Designer Babies,
If I were to want to have a kid I would only change things if my child were sick but not for my child to look a certain way
If we were given an option on how we want our kids to look like the majority of people would design the same characteristics in a baby, such as colored eyes. Their will no longer be kids that would look like their parents so its as if the family generation doesn't go on, sons would look like their father and vice versa. I don't believe its okay to make designer babies because its something that shouldn't be done, its like creating robots. Different characteristic that make a person stand out, wouldn't be the same because the differences would be made.

12.0 "want AD"- write a poem
WANTED
Someone to wash my clothes
must know how to work a washer and dryer
Not blind, so he or she can seperate clothes from colors
Must hang my clothes
Must never get lazy or behind on the chores above, like I do,
Don't say "I'll put the clothes in the dryer tomorrow"
If you do well, you will be ready when you move alone.

12.0 POEM warm up
I would define a poem as it having words that convey a deeper meaning, diction used and rhythm. The kinds of words that are found in a poem matter because they convey a point in a poem or tell a story/
Poems sound like storys, rhyms and songs at times.
A poem is like a song, by the patterns of the sentences and how the words sound alike.
A poem can be like a story because the structure of how its being told and the writing is in present tense writing.I have written a poem before but it has been a while and I think it will be difficult for me to write a poem but will be interesting to do it.

Socratic Seminar- "Everyday Use" 11-4-15

Socratic Seminar "Everyday Use"
During the Socratic Seminar some of the vocabulary that was used was the word portrayed- actor represents or play that part of someone on film, I was familiar with this word and the dictionary helped me somewhat but after hearing how Brandon used the word during the Socratic seminar by saying that Dee's mother "portrayed herself as dependent but also Independent." Oppression- unjust treatment. The dictionary provided me with only one meaning and I thought the word oppression only had one way of being used but after having the Socratic seminar and people using the word oppression to describe how people were oppressed in the time period of "Everyday Use" I now understand that there can be other meanings to words. Joanna used the word coincide which means to occur during the same time but she used the word to compare the time periods and the women's character, by saying that Dee's decision were based on the time period. This example helped me better understand the word based on how Joanna used coincide.
A technique that was used a lot during the Socratic seminar was reflecting on what the blanket meant. Another technique that we used to comprehend the text was using evidence from the story on why Dee changed her name and her life, because to comprehend Dee we needed to re-read the text and brake down the meaning of her words. Brandon used his sister as an example to explain why Maggie was smiling when her mom gave her the quilt instead of Dee. The example used was comparing how still children feel a sense of pride when they get something first than their older sibling. A good technique that was used by Brandon was him using other stories for example Jury of Her Peers to compare the time periods of how people lived. As I looked back to the video, I did okay in the Socratic seminar but what I could fix is getting more into detail with my answers and fully develop my thoughts because my answers could be confusing. I was not fully prepared for this Socratic seminar. As a group we preformed well and helped each other out when we got stuck and tried to involve other students that did not speak, but the camera played a role in people not speaking because they got nervous when the light and camera were on them.
In my imaginary essay for "Everyday use," I would used the strategies used during the Socratic Seminar for example we used the time period to form opinion on why Dee made the decisions she did, other strategies we used were reflecting on text we better understand a question and using personal experiences to make a point .If I wrote an imaginary essay the main points I would express is the time period because we learned that much of the decisions made by Dee correlated with the time period and Dee trying to move on to current trends. Another point I would express is the quilt, this was a topic that was talked about a lot because this was the main issue with Dee's mother and her daughters because she had to figure out who had the best interest in the quilt and which daughter would add more to the quilt. I understand why "Maggie smiled" when she got the quilt at the end, when something that is passed down by generations is usually given to the older sibling first, its like when I got my phone before my sister, she was upset but my parents chose by who would be more responsible, this is just like how Dee's mother made her decision.

Heritage
think about the objects that represent your heritage.
What are they? What exactly do they represent? Are all the memories associated with them pleasant? How so? Write as if writing got great-grandchildren that explains your heritage
Dear Great-grandchildren,
These objects that I'm passing to you have been passed down from generation to generation. This rope is significant because my grandpa used it to rope cows, bulls, goats and horses. This rope holds memories, of when my grandpa tied up a goat on the tree to make dinner. My brother helped tie up the goat and gut the goat, after I helped to make the dinner which was the goat. This experience with my grandpa was such a great experience and great memories.

On Allegory
Think about a subject you know well, say the role of parent or student or job-holder, and sketch out an allegory based on that subject. If you consider working in a fast-food restaurant as allegory, for instance, you might see yourself as Mercury, speeding from one spot to another, delivering food to the gods. The patrons, then, would take on the characteristics of various gods from Greek mythology.
A parent responsibility is to help the child follow the right path, teach from right and wrong. Parents are the care taker and guardians of the child, they are supposed to be the role models, at times they are the friend.
Parents are like the hero's or angels of a child they pick them up when they fall, or adopt them when they have no one. Super women and super man for example, these individuals save people in a time of need, like superheros parents come swooping in to save and guard children.
